The idea of Changing
What a nice day today is! What? You disagree? You think the weather outside looks bad? It is raining, wet and foggy, but that’s what I want. If the sun shines lovely in the sky and the temperature is warm every day, what should I write about? I can not make up poem without any inspiration or true event. The lovely sunshine won’t fit my feelings about having three quizzes in a day. Therefore, it is exactly a nice day for me.
Don’t I sound a little bit manic? The truth is, writing a poem a day really drives me crazy, so I want to make some changes to let this progress become more interesting and easier to me.
First, I always start my poem at the end of the day which is hard for me to become creative and humor. Last night, after I finally finished my homework, it was already 10:50 pm. I grabbed a pencil and try to write something on my notebook, but unfortunately, all the ideas and information appeared in my mind are about history and mathematics; which I have been reviewing for the whole study hall period.
My mind was full of equations about log and differences between Fascism and communism, like a huge heavy rock push down on the center of brain; it blocked the path for all my ideas and thoughts on writing a poem. Also, sleepy feeling and strange noises made by my roommate was another disturbing effect. “Monday is such a hard day for me. I deserve to be in bed early. What about giving up for just one day? I can cover it tomorrow.” Staring at the blank paper, a drastic psychological activity struggled in my mind; I felt my mind had been divided to two parts and there are angle and demon in each part of my brain fighting and arguing out a thesis called “should Leo write a poem or not.” They were too aggressive and the debate became a war which took place in the center of my brain. I felt dizzy and fainted out in bed.
When I woke up, it was six o’clock in the morning. Looked at the brand-new sun rising from the edge of the JJW building and hearing the tweeting of birds, I felt anomalous comfort and relaxed. The dazzling sunshine outside the window, reminded me about the project we were doing which was making a rainbow using chemical compounds. Therefore, in a mood of joyful, I wrote down this poem about chemistry( Please forgive me, all I have in my mind now is that my first class is chemistry.)
Rainbow
HCL is blush,
NaOH is blue.
What can we do?
To make a rainbow!
H2O is needed,
One drop immediate.
Put on your glasses,
And don’t forget your goggles.
Listen to Ms. Glassmire,
Let’s make a rainbow!
At that time, I felt how fun writing a poem is. In the fist wisp of sunshine, I sank into deep thought. Writing a poem could be fun or as bad as the assigned homework; it only depends on when and how you try to do it!

I like how you describe your difficulties in writing a poem, it's very interesting! I want to hear more about how you came up with the idea about writing a poem about Chemistry, although you mentioned that your first class was chemistry, but I feel like that wasn't enough. Perhaps you could u can make some connections between weathers and poems as well, you mentioned in the beginning, but I didn't see any connections later on.
ReplyDeleteLeo, interesting post and interesting poem. I agree with what Nancy said in her comment about explaining more about why you wrote this one: did you have chemical symbols on your mind? Sometimes you can write a poem inspired by a memory or something you read or even a conversation. Let yourself write about anything as long as you get in the habit of writing. Here is a sentence level correction for you: use everyday as an adjective as in "My everyday shoes are getting worn out" and every day to express an adjective and noun combination as in "It is hard to write a poem every day."
ReplyDelete1. I like the poem you wrote and the fighting going on in your brain.
ReplyDelete2. A conclusion about these days' challenge. How was it?
3. One detailed conclusion.
4. You have a really good intro paragraph and description of your feelings.
5. What a nice day today is/ what a nice day today!
I hate this. Third time publish for Leo
