Surveillance Cameras: Create a Better Environment

“What’s wrong with the second floor of VDP?” I ask myself. Because of the passport issue, I come back to school 8 days later than normal. It is 8 o’clock which is the time for all the students to study at their desks. However, In VDP study hall is a little bit different; people are usually talking running around in the hallway or hanging out in their friends’ room and making strange noises. Therefore, the abnormal cleanness and quietness in the hallway and the hardworking students surprised me. Why the world change so rapidly in that short period of time. Am I in a different time line? Later on I noticed that it is the credit of the surveillance cameras which had been placed on the hallway. In my opinion, school should settle the surveillance cameras in the hallway and the public area, because it not only protect our safety but also create a better environment for student to live and study. 

First, the surveillance cameras create a better study environment for students. In VDP, dorm parents usually need to take charge of the whole floor or even the whole building by themselves which is really hard to take care of. Some students will take advantage of the time while dorm parents is not there to play and chasing around in the hallway or go to other people’s room making strange noises. It become a big disturb to the student who wants to study in the study hall time. Before having the surveillance cameras, students who mess around always have excuses when dorm parents come. For example, they will say that they are coming to ask questions about study to their friends or pretend nothing happened; After the dorm parents leave they come out of their and starts to mess around again. It is really hard for me to study in a environment like this. Nonetheless, we have the surveillance cameras; The cameras will record everything they do and become the evidence which can not be hidden. They will get detention and noticed that compare to do community service on Saturday morning study in their room during study hall is much more better and interesting. As you can see, having the surveillance cameras really help to create a better study environment.

Second, the surveillance cameras reduce the chance of the bad behavior happened in dorm. Have you ever be annoyed by the vicious jokes, and can not find out who did it? I have experienced this situation just before the spring break. My leaving form which is stick on my door has been signed and written by other people which brought me lots of trouble. I have to explain to the dorm parents about my leaving form and asked for a new one. No one admitted he did it. Also, I saw people making bad jokes on each other. For example, they throw dirty paper tower and splash water to other people. Sometimes they even put rubbish and shampoo on the doorknob. Of course, people who’s being teased would be angry and they would done the same things to pay back which make a mess on the hallway and become a big disturb to other student’s daily life. That’s the reason why VDP 2 always being shouted by Mr. G. Now we have the surveillance cameras in dorms. Every time they what to do something bad they will know that “Big Brother is Watching You”. In my opinion, the fear of detention is much stronger than the fun they get from making fun of other people. Therefore, the bad behavior will be reduced and other students’ daily life won’t be interrupted.

Lastly, The surveillance camera do a great job on protecting our safety. This year a lot stealing problems happened in dorms. Some has been caught, but most of them hadn’t been found out. The situation is deteriorating, because is impossible to find out the thieves with out any evidence expect you catch him stealing in your room. After having the surveillance cameras, the thief can not hide away anymore. There is no way for them to sneak to someone’s room and steal the money when they are sleeping. Dorm parents always told us to unlock the room at night to check if we are really sleeping which give thieves chance to steal money. The surveillance cameras will open 24*7 all the time and recording every details. Whenever you lost something, find the surveillance cameras which can help you to find it back easily. To people like me will be a great convenient, because you don’t need to lock your door every time you get out of the room and lock yourselves outside. As you can see, the days with surveillance cameras help students to live a safer lives at school.

To sum up, students need surveillance cameras to build a better environment for them at school. It is not only protecting their safety, but also creating a better study atmosphere and a more comfortable living environment; You will never worried about things getting steal, and you can leave the door open whenever you want. As long as no one set up surveillance cameras in your dorm rooms, your privacy will be protected, because I can't think of any thing private you can do in the hallway. Make your choice. A little privacy on hallway or live safety and study in a good environment; which is better?
